Development and Performance Evaluation of a Single Screw Extruder for the Production of Floating Fish Feed

An extruding machine for the production of floating fish feed was designed and fabricated. Performance evaluation fabricated done. The design hopper; shaft, barrel, screw die were done using standard equations. Effect extrusion parameters which are moisture content (20% 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%) size (2 mm, 4 6 8 mm 10 mm) speed (150 rpm; 200 rpm, 250 300 rpm 350 rpm) on expansion ratio, floatability, specific mechanical energy efficiency evaluated. result shows that has significant effect all variables, as highest ratio 32% obtained at 30% size. Highest floatability 97% 30 kJ/kg 40% Die variation also high impact performance, showing 83% while floatation rate 98% 6mm Screw having 85% 150 93% 29 rpm. Operation condition its best content; speed. content, have performance machine. Careful selection combination these factors will give optimum during resin.
